‘A place that allows both the recluse and the active relaxer in you, to feel right at home.’

The Historic Pack Track was the only access by foot or by Horse from Camp Bay to Little Port Cooper back in the 1800s. A settlement of houses in a little secluded village in the bay, housed the ship signalmen for the Port and their families. All of the buildings have since gone as well as the long jetty, except for one, the School House which was exactly that, a school for the children who lived there.

During your stay, you have private access to this walking track if you felt that a hike in the hills was your kind of wonder. Take in the breathtaking views along the Harbour, over to Godley Head and out to the open ocean. When you make it to Little Port Cooper you will be graced with a beautiful secluded sandy beach and the little historic school house. The walk takes just over an hour each way. When you arrive back to The Bearded Poet, enjoy a refreshing ocean swim or a hot soak in the outdoor bath.

A fisherman’s feast right on your door step

Beautiful fresh Mussels grow in abundance along the volcanic rocky shelf right outside The Bearded Poet. At low tide you can pick them and collect in the mussel bucket and bring back to the hut to create a beautiful fresh mussel dish of your choice. Or try our favourite simple mussel recipe from Nadia Lim.

It doesn’t get much better than this!

Although the Bearded Poet is in its own private little bay, and it’s just a few steps away to enjoy a swim, you may like to visit and explore Camp Bay. Just a short 10 min stroll from The Bearded Poet, a picturesque sandy safe swimming beach.
